A free stem separator that actually runs on Windows

Most "free" stem tools are a web upload box or a Mac-only download. Quota Stems is a native Windows app that splits any song into stems right on your PC — offline, no account, and nothing ever leaves the machine.

How it works

Install it on your PC

Download the Windows app and install it on Windows 10 or 11. No account, no sign-up, no browser tab to keep open — it's a normal desktop program that runs on the machine you already make beats on.

Load a song, or a whole playlist

Point it at a local file, paste a YouTube URL, or drop in an entire YouTube playlist to batch through. Pick 4 or 6 stems, or switch on the full drum-kit split for up to ~10 — kick, snare, toms, cymbals, and the rest.

Separate offline, export where you work

Demucs runs on your own PC — nothing is uploaded. Get WAV stems, MP4 video stems, a ready-to-play Ableton Live 12 set with each stem warped on its own track, or an Akai Force / MPC project.

Let’s be real

“Free” usually means an upload box and a meter.

Look at what the free tiers actually give you. Lalal.ai: preview-only — you don’t get to download your stems without paying. Moises: five songs a month, five-minute cap, cloud-only. Fadr: genuinely unlimited, but your downloads are MP3s until you pay $10 a month for WAVs — and all three need an account and your upload.

UVR5 deserves respect — free, open source, runs locally. But it hands you a model catalog to study: pick an architecture, download the right models, run multiple passes for finer splits. It’s a power tool that expects you to be the power.

Quota Stems is one installer on Windows 10 or 11. Free means free: WAV stems, up to ~10 with the drum kit broken out, plus the Ableton set and Force/MPC project — no meter, no account, no upload, no model homework.

What you get

What runs on your Windows PC

  • A real Windows desktop app — installs on Windows 10 or 11 and runs offline, not a web page you upload files to.
  • Nothing leaves the machine. Demucs does the separation on your own PC — no file upload, no account, no sign-in, no cloud.
  • 4 or 6 stems, or up to ~10 with the full drum-kit split: kick, snare, toms, and cymbals broken out on their own.
  • Exports a ready-to-play Ableton Live 12 set — each stem warped on its own track with cue-point scenes and follow actions — plus Akai Force / MPC projects and plain WAV stems.
  • Paste a YouTube URL or a whole playlist and batch the lot, and pull MP4 video stems out the other side.
