Name another one that does all this

Every feature below ships in a free app that runs entirely on your machine. Most separators do one or two. Quota Stems does the whole list.

Split the drum kit — not just "drums"

Every other separator stops at one drum stem. Quota Stems keeps going — kick, snare, toms, cymbals and the rest — up to 10 stems from a single song. Free, and running on your laptop, not someone's server.

  • • 4 or 6 stems — or split the drums into the full kit
  • • Kick / snare / toms / cymbals / residual
  • • Up to ~10 stems from one track
  • • Feed them into Quota Kits to build a playable drum rack

Opens as a playable Ableton Live 12 set

Not a folder of WAVs — a real, portable Live 12 project. Stems land on named tracks, sliced into cue-point scenes (intro, verse, chorus), warped to the detected tempo. Hit a scene and the whole section fires in time.

  • • Cue-point scenes — one row per section, every stem aligned
  • • Warped on-grid — Complex or Re-Pitch warp mode
  • • Follow Actions chain the scenes so the set loops hands-free
  • • Session + Arrangement views, in a portable project folder

URL & Playlist Import

Built in, not bolted on: pull audio or video straight from a URL — including a whole YouTube playlist — with no third-party downloader. Paste a public or unlisted link, the queue fills, and Auto-run takes it from there.

  • • Import single URLs or entire playlists
  • • Automatic download and processing
  • • Batch processing for playlists
  • • Auto-run option for hands-free workflow

Video-First Stem Export

Unique feature: Export stems as MP4 files that keep the original video stream and replace the audio with the selected stem. Perfect for isolating dialogue from video or creating instrumental videos.

  • • Export stems as MP4 (keeps original video)
  • • Choose which stem: Vocals, Drums, Bass, Other, or Instrumental
  • • Works with any video source
  • • Perfect for dialogue isolation from video

Non-Destructive Stems

Perfect recombination: sum the stems back in your DAW and you get the exact original — sample-accurate, no frequency doubling. Even the drum split is lossless: kick + snare + toms + cymbals + residual rebuilds the drum bus bit-for-bit.

  • • Stems sum back to the exact original — no doubling
  • • Drum split stays lossless via the residual track
  • • Clean, studio-grade WAVs
  • • Recombine, remix, or rebalance freely

Builds an Akai Force / MPC project

Drop the .xpj on your Force and the stems are already in the clip matrix — cue sections as launch rows, stems as track columns, warp-enabled at the song's tempo. No other separator builds a playable Force/MPC project — free or paid.

  • • Clip-matrix project from the LinkWarp template
  • • Cue-section rows × stem-track columns, warped to tempo
  • • Follow Actions chain the scene rows so it plays itself
  • • Session and Arranger (timeline) modes
  • • Hardware-verified on the Akai Force

A whole playlist → one playable set

Point it at a folder or a YouTube playlist and Quota Stems stitches every song into one combined Ableton or Akai Force/MPC project — each song its own colour-blocked scene, warped to its own tempo, chained to the next. A whole crate, launchable from one grid — a DJ set you can actually perform.

  • • One scene and one colour per song
  • • Each song warped to its own detected BPM
  • • Follow Actions chain it so the set plays itself end to end
  • • Optional gapless arrangement for a continuous run

Themes + Theme Designer

Pick a preset theme or build your own palette. Quota Stems includes dark, light, and colorful presets, plus a Theme Designer to save custom themes.

  • • Dark, light, and colorful presets
  • • Customize accent / panel / text colors
  • • Save and switch instantly
  • • Match your studio setup

Instrumental Export

Export a complete instrumental (no vocals) from any full song. Perfect for remixing, karaoke, or creating backing tracks.

  • • One-click instrumental export
  • • Mixes Drums + Bass + Other automatically
  • • Perfect for remixing
  • • Works with audio and video sources

Ableton — Session view

Each song is a column of cue-point scenes — one row per section, every stem on its own track. Launch a row and the whole section fires, warped and looping. In a batch set, every song gets its own colour.

Quota Stems runs Demucs for 4 or 6 stems (add Piano + Guitar), then goes further than anyone else with a drum-kit split — kick, snare, toms and cymbals — for up to ~10 stems. Every export can spin up a ready-to-play Ableton Live 12 set and an Akai Force / MPC project. Basic separation is fast; GPU acceleration drops it to under a couple of minutes a song.

  • 4 or 6 stems: Vocals / Drums / Bass / Other — add Piano + Guitar in Advanced
  • Drum-kit split: kick / snare / toms / cymbals, plus a residual that recombines exactly
  • Non-destructive: sum the stems back to the exact original — no frequency doubling
  • DAW projects + batches: Ableton + Akai Force/MPC sets with cue scenes, warp, and follow-action looping — across whole playlists

FAQ

Answers, fast

Is Quota Stems really free?

Yes! Quota Stems is completely free forever. No subscriptions, no accounts, no hidden fees, and no limits on how many stems you can extract. Download it, use it, and keep using it — it's yours.

What are the system requirements?

Windows Minimum:

  • Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit)
  • Intel Core i5 4th Gen or AMD equivalent
  • 4 cores, 2.0 GHz
  • 8 GB RAM (16 GB recommended)
  • 15 GB free storage (app, models, and working media)
  • Integrated graphics

Performance (CPU only): Stem separation can take 5-15 minutes per song.

Windows Recommended:

  • Windows 11 (64-bit)
  • Intel Core i7 8th Gen or newer, or AMD Ryzen 5/7
  • 6+ cores, 3.0+ GHz
  • 16 GB RAM (32 GB+ for large projects)
  • SSD storage
  • NVIDIA GPU with CUDA (GTX 1060 6GB+ or RTX series equivalent)

Performance (GPU acceleration): Stem separation 30 seconds to 2 minutes per song.

macOS Minimum:

  • macOS 13 (Ventura) or later
  • Intel Core i5 4th Gen or newer (or Apple Silicon)
  • 4-core CPU
  • 8 GB RAM
  • 15 GB free storage (app, models, and working media)

macOS Recommended:

  • macOS 14 or 15 on Apple Silicon (M1–M5)
  • 16 GB RAM or higher
  • SSD storage for faster processing

Quota Stems is optimized for Apple Silicon (M1–M5 chips deliver the best performance), but it also works with older Macs running Intel chips.

How does support work for free software?

Quota Stems is fully supported, and we're committed to keeping it working well for all users. Purchasers of Quota Mini receive priority support in our support queue, which means faster response times for technical issues or questions.

Free users still receive support — we just process paid customer requests first. This helps us maintain the quality of service for customers who have invested in the ecosystem while still ensuring everyone gets help when they need it.

Can I use it without an internet connection?

Yes — Quota Stems runs completely offline. You don't need an internet connection to extract stems. The only time you need internet is for the initial download and when importing from URLs (which requires downloading the source file first).

Once installed, all processing happens locally on your machine. No cloud uploads, no data collection, and no online requirements.

What audio/video formats does it support?

Quota Stems supports most common audio and video formats, including MP4, MOV, WAV, MP3, M4A, and more. You can import local files, entire folders, or paste URLs from YouTube and other platforms.

Exports are available as WAV files for audio stems, or MP4 files for video stems (which keep the original video and replace the audio with the selected stem).

How accurate is the stem separation?

Quota Stems uses Demucs for standard 4-stem separation (Vocals, Drums, Bass, Other). This 4-stem mode is non-destructive — you can recombine the stems in your DAW and get back the exact original.

If you want deeper separation, you can also export Advanced 6-stem sets (adds Piano + Guitar). For most remix/DJ/content workflows, 4-stem is the sweet spot; 6-stem is great for DAW arrangement and Ableton export.

Can it split the drum kit (kick, snare, hats)?

Yes. On top of 4 or 6 stems, Quota Stems can split the drum stem into its pieces — kick, snare, toms, cymbals and the rest — for up to ~10 stems from a single song. Drop those straight into Quota Kits to build a playable drum rack.

Can it build an Ableton or Akai Force/MPC project?

Both. Quota Stems exports a ready-to-open Ableton Live 12 set — stems warped, named and aligned — and an Akai Force / MPC project you can play right on the hardware. It's the only stem separator that builds a Force/MPC project, and playlist batches export one scene per song.

Can I process entire playlists or folders?

Yes! Quota Stems excels at batch processing. You can paste a YouTube playlist URL, select an entire folder, or queue up multiple files. Enable "Treat as playlist/batch" for playlists, and optionally enable auto-run for hands-free processing.

Each item gets its own folder with neatly named files, so you can process entire collections without manual organization.

How does it work with Quota Mini?

Quota Stems creates a quota_handoff.json file for seamless integration with Quota Mini. Extract stems with Quota Stems, then drag the vocal stem into Quota Mini to transcribe and chop dialogue at the speed of thought.

This workflow lets you isolate vocals first, then work with clean dialogue in Quota Mini for sampling, editing, or content creation.
