Quota Stems 1.2 Adds Six-Way Drum Separation

Split a drum stem into kick, snare, toms, hi-hat, ride, and crash; start from clearer workflow presets; and use the current 1.2.1 build with restored YouTube imports.

A real Quota Stems workflow with six labeled drum outputs: Kick, Snare, Toms, Hi-Hat, Ride and Crash.

Quota Stems 1.2 adds a second separation pass for the part of a song producers often need to edit most: the drums.

Start with a drum stem and split it into kick, snare, toms, hi-hat, ride, and crash. The existing four-way drum option remains available when kick, snare, toms, and cymbals are enough.

The current build is Quota Stems 1.2.1 for Mac and Windows, and Quota Stems remains free.

Six drum parts from one stem

A normal stem separation can get the drums away from the bass, vocals, and other instruments, but it still leaves the whole kit printed together. Version 1.2 can take that drum stem one step further.

Six-way mode gives the major kit pieces their own files:

  • Kick
  • Snare
  • Toms
  • Hi-hat
  • Ride
  • Crash

Use the individual parts for remixing, replacement, sampling, arrangement changes, or a more detailed Ableton, Force, or MPC project. Separation is an estimate, so dense mixes and layered percussion can still produce bleed. The original and the simpler four-part option remain useful references.

Options start with the job

The redesigned Options view starts from recognizable workflows instead of asking you to assemble every output from scratch. Presets include:

  • Just Stems
  • Ableton Session
  • Force
  • MPC
  • Kit Maker
  • Custom

Advanced choices remain available when you need them. Palette themes also make the app easier to fit into a working environment without changing the output.

Quota Stems Options exposes the drum-splitting controls and output choices.

What 1.2.1 fixes

Quota Stems 1.2.1 restores YouTube URL imports on macOS and Windows after upstream client changes. It includes the August 19, 2026 yt-dlp build with its required JavaScript support. Failed imports now return to the app instead of trapping the Activity window.

URL services can change independently of Quota Stems. Importing a local audio or video file remains the most dependable path.
